It should be remembered that the destruction of the Sasana caused by the monks who fell in love with the relics during the reign of King Dharmasoka was greater than the pagan influences on Buddhism up to that time.
Let me first tell you about this with an example. If someone in your home wants to cause an accident, who is the easiest person to do it? It’s easier for someone in this country than in another. It’s more convenient for someone in your area than anywhere else in this country. It’s more convenient for a neighbor than for someone in your area. It’s even easier for someone who lives in your home. It seems that if something is to be destroyed, it will be easier to accomplish it by getting closer to it. Accordingly, it is necessary to understand the point made above. That is, the monks and the Buddhist laity must realize that Buddhism can be easily destroyed.
Can the laity be blamed for the corrupt clergy?
Let me first recall some of the points mentioned in the Lohichcha Sutta of the Deegha Nikaya. “Lohichcha, there are three patrons in this world who deserve to be accused. If anyone accuses such scribes, those accusations are true. Agrees with the Dhamma. Is correct. Whichever of the three, Lohichcha, a certain patron of the world goes out of the lay house for some purpose and is ordained in the Sasana, and he does not receive the Arahantship which is the result of that Shramanaism. He preaches the Dhamma to his disciples, saying, “This is for pleasure,” and although his disciples do not have the right to accuse the laity of bhikkhus, they do not set their minds on the same Dhamma, but under the guidance of the Apostle. Even if he stays away, he will be charged. ”
Lohichcha, I will say one more thing. Whether a patron of the world goes out of the laity for some purpose, or whether he has not received the Arahantship which is the result of that asceticism, he does not come to that Arahantship, but for the sake of the disciples, for the sake of the Thapa, for the sake of the Thopa. If he preaches the Dhamma to his disciples, and his disciples listen to it, and set their minds on the same Dhamma, and he does not deviate from the admonition of the Apostle, he will be accused. ”
“Lohichcha, if any patron of the world goes out of the secular house for some purpose and is ordained as a Rahat, which is the result of that Shramana, he comes to that Rahat and enjoys this for the disciples, for Thopa, for the mind, for Thopa. If he preaches the Dhamma to his disciples, and his disciples do not listen to it, and do not set their minds on the same Dhamma, and stay away from the admonition of the Apostle, then he will be accused. ”
The first mention of this is to show that it is wrong for anyone to think that the laity have no right to accuse the monks.
Life of Buddhism
The life of Buddhism is discipline. Arahant Sariyuttha once came before the Buddha and asked: The Supreme Buddha said, “Lord, what a blessed Buddha’s Sasana will not last long.”
“Shariputra, Blessed Vipassi, Blessed Sikh and Blessed Vessabhu, endeavored to preach the Dhamma in detail to the disciples. Disciples were not disciplined. Pratimoksha was not preached. After the enlightenment of the Blessed Buddhas, after the enlightenment of the disciples who heard and understood from the Buddha, there was a disciple who was after him, who had different names, who had different tribes, who had been ordained from different clans, and that Dhamma disappeared immediately. He did. Shariputra, which is somehow placed in a flower tray and not attached to a string, disintegrates, blows and destroys as if it were scattered in the air. The disciples, who were ordained of various races, immediately disappeared from the Dhamma. ”
It was also preached that the reign of the Buddhas Kakusanda, Konagama and Kashyapa lasted a long time because of the preaching of Pratimoksha. The Buddha has preached in the Bhikku Vibhanga of the Vinaya Pitaka that the existence of the Sasana of the Buddhas is determined by the Vinaya Pratimoksha. These are the ones who have emptiness, who are fickle, who have cruel words, who have a deceived mind, who have no wisdom, who do not have a consensual mind, who have a particularly troubled mind, who have no instincts. Shallow people. ” [Uttaniparisa Sutra]
“Sir, these are two people. Which two are the racial disunity and the unity group? What is the disunity of the people, Mahanani? There are some monks in this Sasana who have quarrels and riots, who have come to the opposition and live with each other with seven words, these are the types of dissenters. ” [Waggaparisa Sutra]
“Sir, these are two people. Which two are the people who have the greatest people and the people who have the greatest people. Those who have lost the noblest are those who adhere to the permanence of certain bhikkhus in the Sasana, who do not respect the discipline of the Sasana, who do not strive for Nirvana, who do not strive for Nirvana. [Aggawathiparisa Sutra]
“Sir, these are two people. Which two are the Aryans and the non-Aryans? Mahanai, no matter who the Aryans are, if they do not know that the Pentateuch is misery, that lust is the cause of suffering, that lust is the cause of suffering, that lust is the cause of suffering, that lust is the cause of suffering, that the Aryan path is the path to suffering. It is said that these are not the Aryans, even though they do not know enough. [Ariya Sutra]
“Sir, these are two people. Which two are the whip (empty) group and the manda (essence) group. Mahanai, who are the people who are being whipped, that is, the monks of a certain group in this Sasana are being prejudiced by the vote, prejudiced by hatred, prejudiced by delusion, prejudiced by fear. ” [kasaṭa sutraya]
“Sir, these are two people. Which two are the undisciplined and the undisciplined? Ladies and Gentlemen, these undisciplined people are those who are profound, profound, transcendent, emptiness-filled, those who are happy, who do not listen, who do not listen, who do not hold their minds. There are certain sutras uttered by external disciples outside the Sasana, who do not learn the Dhammas to be learned, and listen to it with a happy heart, and do not inquire into the doctrines which cause suspicion, and do not dispel doubts. These are undisciplined people. ” [Ukta Sutra]
“Sir, these are two people. Which two are the people who do not respect the Dhamma and the people who do not respect the Dhamma. Mahanai, who are the four non-believers who have respected the Dhamma? The bhikkhu who came and said, “Asaval bhikkhu is freed from faith, Asaval bhikkhu is devout, Asaval bhikkhu is virtuous, Asaval bhikkhu is lame, Asaval bhikkhu is filthy, Asaval bhikkhu gets all fours by their virtues,” It is said that they did not respect the Dhamma. “Sir, these are two people. Which two are heterogeneous and heterogeneous? What are the heterogeneous people, Mahanani, whether there are unrighteous deeds in the people of this Sasana, whether there are no dharma deeds, whether there are anti-disciplinary deeds, whether there are no disciplinary deeds, whether the unrighteous deeds shine, whether the dharma deeds do not shine? The group is.[visamaparisa sutraya]
“Sir, these are two people. Which two are the righteous and the unrighteous? Mahanai, these are the unrighteous people of this Sasana, whether there are unrighteous deeds, whether there are no dharma deeds, whether there are anti-disciplinary deeds, whether there are no disciplinary deeds, whether the unrighteous deeds shine, whether the dharma deeds do not shine. [Adhammika Sutra]
In this way, the Supreme Buddha has preached many things that can exist in monks. Bhikkhus with such characters are more or less present in the time of Buddha, in this age and in the future. It must be said that a monk is superior to the laity, no matter how filthy he may be.
Today some monks are going to make the country. Furthermore, monks auction the Dhamma for rupees. Some monks do not even wear a chivara. Some monks try to remove Abhidharma from Buddhism. All this shows is that King Kosol’s eleventh dream is coming true.
